"There are two great responsibilities common to all faiths: to love one another and to care for Creation. Faith in Place creates hopeful and welcoming spaces for people of all faiths to fulfill these two responsibilities as we reflect deeply on our own faiths; integrate the teachings of these faiths into our economic and ecological practices; and work together for a shared future which is economically just and ecologically sustainable." |

Rev. Clare Butterfield's ministry is a call to all people of faith to reflect on religious teachings about environmental stewardship and to come together to act on those teachings. She directs Faith In Place, whose initiatives include: a Neighborhood Food Cooperative, creating a market for local organic farmers in an under served African-American neighborhood; an Urban Agriculture program for youth; a project to relight the streets with greater efficiency so that stars come into view; and "Illinois Interfaith Power & Light," an initiative using religious leadership to build the market for wind energy in Illinois and part of a multi-state network. Faith in Place also directs a Halal food project called "Eco Halal" which serves and fosters alliances between the Muslim community in Chicago and Apostolic Christian ranchers in Illinois, both of whom value the humane slaughter of animals. Clare is a lawyer, and she is ordained as a Unitarian Universalist Community Minister; she preaches at the Unity Temple in Oak Park, Illinois.
